Hiking in the Snow

Winter Hiking on the Plose

With or without snowshoes – experience a very special and fairy tale winter landscape.

Winter hiking has its own charm. To enjoy it fully enjoy we recommend good shoes and poles.  Even if our winter hiking trails are regularly groomed, hiking on snow is different than in summer, because of the grip.

Winter hiking trails

To the Rossalm (nr. 14)
2.5 km, 45-60 minutes – one way
Right at the arrival of the gondola lift, to be exact from the sun terrace  of the Restaurant La Finestra, you can start a walk to the Rossalm Hut. Follow the Shared Trail signs until you get to the Guesthouse Geisler. Right after it you need to cross the slope and then decide whether to take the upper or the lower path (this one is al little bit steeper on the last part) . The paths  are groomed regularly and lead, slightly uphill, along 2.5 km to one of the most popular huts in the whole Plose area, the Rossalm. Who wants can pull the toboggan and, when returning, enjoy the run back to the gondola lift.
The hike is also suited for snow shoes.

To Skihütte / Rifugio Sci (nr. 17C)
3 km, 60 minutes – one way
Right at the arrival of the gondola lift Plose, you can start your hike. Starting from the sun terrace of the Restaurant La Finestra, follow the Shared Trail signs until you get to the Guesthouse Geisler. Right after it you need to cross the slope and then take the lower path (right hand side). After aproximately 500 m you turn right where the signs indicate “Nr. 17C Skihütte / Rifugio Sci”. Follow the 2 km long path until you get to that place. The path ist groomed regularly and leads to the Berghotel Schlemmer, where you can enjoy your rest.

To Skihütte
This easy tour starts right behind the Geisler Inn. Cross the slope and on your right hand you start your hike along the winter hiking trail nr. 17. After approximately 1 km leads into the woods until you reach the ditches and small indentations along the route to Skihütte . At the Berghotel Schlemmer at Skihütte you can end you excursion with a nice meal.

The path is about 3 km long. For one way you should calculate about 1.5 hours.

To the Plose Hut

At the top station of the gondola lift Plose you can start for a panoramic snowshoe hike to the Plose Hut. The hike is especially suitable for experienced hikers as there is a difference of height of 500m. The path starts behind the top station of the gondola lift Plose. After a short while you reach the slope Trametsch. Turn right and then cross the ski slope following the signs. The trail leads uphill on the southern side of the hills – but always outside the ski slopes – until you reach the Plose Hut.
The return trip can be done on the same route.

Renting out snowshoes

You can rent your snowshoes at Sportservice Erwin Stricker, located at the bottom station of the gondola lift Plose. You can also buy your pair of snowshoes at the shop, located there, too.
