Secret Spots and Herbal Treasures
Brixen is surrounded by deep forests and wide meadows where wonderful places and delicious herbal treasures are hidden. This is exactly where we are drawn on this tour. We want to recharge our batteries, enjoy the silence and taste delicacies from the forest and meadow cuisine.
The Plose gondola lift takes us from St. Andrä up to the mountain station in Kreuztal. We hike along deserted paths towards the Ochsenalm, a dreamy spot above the forest line. There, where tranquillity still rules the day, we enjoy a snack before visiting the Schmiedthof herb farm. Farmer Rita welcomes us and shows us her lovingly tended herb garden. Together we take a close look behind the scenes of the herb farm, explore the small farm shop and taste colourful homemade herbal juices.
The way is 9km long and the difference of height is 140 mh up, 600 mh down.

What a fascinating spectacle with an interplay of colours; when the greenery turns to golden and reddish hues, the autumn sun lights up the landscape in all its glory. On this autumn hike up on the Plose, this is exactly what we are expecting. Along the way, there’s a lunch stop at the rustic Schatzerhütte mountain hut, conjuring up sumptuous platters of homegrown culinary delights.
