Brixen and Plose prepare for the winter season
Autumn has just begun, but the first snow is already on the mountains and preparations for the next winter season have begun. Safety has the highest priority and is covered by the slogan „we care about you“. The safety concept of Dolomiti Superski and thus also of the Plose is based on the national legal provisions and does everything to ensure that the ski season is healthy and safe. All partners in the entire ski area will implement the regulations with the utmost care and visitors will also be reminded of the applicable measures with a guidance system on site.
To enjoy a great skiing experience you don’t need a large ski area. Less is more! The advantages of a skiing holiday in Brixen are easy to see. Perhaps this year, more than ever, you want to rediscover remote destinations, avoid long queues at the ski lifts and enjoy the ski slopes without too much bustle. Then the Plose is the ideal place. A well-organised ski area with wide slopes, fast lifts to reduce queues and travel times, a longer season than in previous years, regular sanitisation of the lifts, online sale of ski passes with 24-hour pick-up at special boxes, a new Dolomiti Superski app with the display of the frequency of skiers at the individual lifts, as well as online booking of ski and equipment hire are just some of the aspects that contribute to a safe holiday in Brixen and on the Plose, whose winter season starts on December 5 and continues until April 5.
The Plose mountain offers over 40 km of slopes of various levels, all perfectly prepared for an unforgettable day of skiing or snowboarding. In addition to the slopes for experts, there is for example the Plose slope no. 2 ideal for beginners and slightly advanced skiers. It has been optimized to make the most of its south-facing position. It is a recommended descent for those who love to enjoy the view of the Dolomites. Width and slope of the slope allow you to ski in complete safety while enjoying the panorama. One of the most beautiful blue slopes in the Plose ski area.
Those who live on pure adrenaline can try two exceptional slopes on the Plose. In addition to the already legendary Trametsch, a unique 9 km long track (making it the longest in South Tyrol) from the Plose Hut at an altitude of almost 2,500 m to the valley at 1,000 m, in 2019 the second black trail was opened. The new black slope „Crazy Horse“ dedicated to the former Italian national team skier and ski pioneer Erwin Stricker (taking his nickname) is steep and fast with a sensational panoramic view.
But on the Plose not only skiers have fun. The local mountain in Brixen offers beginners and experienced tobogganers a unique opportunity to sledge. RudiRun, the 9 km toboggan run, is one of the longest toboggan runs in the Alps. The toboggan run offers fun for everyone and is a great attraction for those who visit the Plose. The tobogganing tour to the Rossalm and the winter hike to the mountain hotel Schlemmer offer an excellent tobogganing and hiking experience. And here, you can stop for a break in the comfortable mountain huts, enjoying a magnificent view.
For all those who have not yet had much experience with tobogganing, an expert will give advice and suggestions during the Tobogganing Days for a fantastic and safe experience. Every Sunday, from 27 December to 7 March, the expert is available free of charge at the top station of the Plose gondola lift. New this year: the tobogganing ticket, which offers unlimited rides on the Plose gondola lift, so that you can race on the RudiRun piste as often as possible.
Those who do not want to sled on the Plose can take the winter hiking trails with or without snowshoes and on sunny winter days can enjoy the wonderful panorama of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Various hiking trails and guided snowshoe hikes will give you everything you desire.
And from January 8th the Plose Nights start again. From 8 January to 5 March the Plose gondola lift is open every Friday evening. An unforgettable evening under a starry winter sky in the Plose mountain huts. You can go winter hiking or tobogganing down the 9 km long RudiRun toboggan run from the top station of the Plose gondola lift to the valley station. The toboggan run is illuminated on Friday evenings. But that’s not all. Sportservice Erwin Stricker offers toboggan rental equipped with the latest lighting equipment. Safe fun for everyone. On the Plose Nights, ski mountaineers can conquer the 1,000 metres of altitude difference on the Trametsch slope from St. Andrä’s to Kreuztal from 6 pm to 11 pm. After the tiring ascent on skis, tasty and warm delicacies await you in the mountain huts. On these evenings there are no snowcats on the slopes until 11 pm to ensure the safety of ski mountaineers.
From skiing to tobogganing, from snowshoeing to shopping in the city centre to the Christmas market and the light musical show, every day is a good day to experience winter in Brixen. Christmas market, hiking, skiing and sledging and then, at nightfall, an unforgettable moment that will make the Christmas period unique and special. From 26th November to 6th January Brixen hosts the most magical and exciting multimedia show in Italy in the courtyard of the Hofburg, the bishop’s palace in Brixen. “Liora. The preciousness of an instant”, an unmissable show for a special evening!
